HISTORY

  • The Dr. Karl Bleyl Junior High School (now known as Bleyl Middle School) was built by the Marshall Construction Company at a cost of $2,574,049.00. The firm Koetter Tharp & Cowell served as architects and planners.  The building contained 142,000 square feet. The school was built to accommodate 1,200 students.  It was opened in the Fall of 1973 with an enrollment of 1,039.

    Superintendent was Dr. Joe W. Harper.  First Principal of Bleyl Middle School was Louis Brown.

    Karl Bleyl Middle School bears the name of the man who promoted educational excellence within Cypress-Fairbanks district.  He served the District for 20 years as a Teacher, Principal, Coordinator, and Consultant. 

    • 1953 - Dr. Bleyl taught science, photography, and German in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD
    • 1955 - He became the Principal of Cy-Fair High School for 6 years.
    • 1956 - Dr. Bleyl and 10 other educators created the Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union.
    • 1970 - Dr. Bleyl had an interest in developing a scholarship fund, so he, along with Allen Labay, Rev. Aragon, Jim Black, and Herman Mead created the Cy-Fair Education Foundation.
    • 1973 - Bleyl Middle School was opened and named after Dr. Karl Bleyl.

    Dr. Bleyl's career spanned 20 years in Cypress Fairbanks ISD until his death in 1973.  He was a humanitarian with a vision. He was dedicated to God, country, and had a steadfast devotion to young people, and his fellow man.
