Owens Elementary was named after Eleanor and Carl M. Owens who collectively devoted 85 years of service to children in public schools of the State of Texas. Mr. Owens served as a teacher, coach, band director, principal, and superintendent in schools throughout east Texas. His first teaching position was in a logging camp. He was principal of Post Elementary in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD from 1964 until his retirement in 1976. Mrs. Owens taught in Humble, Texas, as well as the various schools Mr. Owens worked in.
