Bleyl MS commemorates 50th anniversary with campus celebration

Nov. 7, 2023—The Bleyl Middle School community gathered on Oct. 28 at the campus to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary.
Bleyl community members, along with former staff and students, joined current staff members and students for a morning celebration that included a student color run, inflatables, music, food trucks, giveaways and mini carnival games.
Bleyl Middle School students, staff and community members were invited to participate a color run to kickoff the school’s 50th anniversary celebration on Oct. 28. The color run was led by cross country students.
“We’re truly lucky and blessed to celebrate Bleyl’s 50th anniversary,” said Michelle Provo, Bleyl principal. “Bleyl opened in 1973 and I’m so excited to serve as principal during this time. We’re also really excited to see everyone who came out, including former Bleyl principals.”
In addition to the outside festivities, Bleyl’s cafeteria featured yearbooks and campus memorabilia from the past 50 years. Each table represented a different decade. Samdria Stewart, Bleyl assistant principal, and Provo honored all past principals in attendance with a gift and a special made plaque.
Patrons who attended the Bleyl Middle School 50th anniversary celebration were invited inside to the school’s cafeteria to view yearbooks and school memorabilia from the past 50 years. Each table represented a different decade.
“I started my career as a principal here at Bleyl and it was a great 10 years,” said Stacia Carew, who served as Bleyl principal from 2009 to 2019 and is the current Rowe Middle School principal. “Bleyl is a place that is a family and that’s on display here today.”
At the end of the celebration, all patrons who attended were invited to take part in the “Bleyl Family Photo” in the shape of a 50 to officially mark the occasion.

“A lot of people in the district have come through Bleyl as students, teachers and administrators,” said Dr. Sheri McCaig, assistant superintendent for school leadership. “This is an awesome opportunity to be able to celebrate the 50th anniversary with them.”
