CFISD names 2023-2024 Principals of the Year

Feb. 13, 2024Tamera Felder and Stacia Carew were selected as the Elementary and Secondary district representatives for the 2023-2024 Region 4 Principal of the Year award, respectively.

Felder is in her second year as principal of Hancock Elementary School and has 23 total years of experience in education, all of them in CFISD. She began her career as a teacher at Farney Elementary School. Her first principal job came at Wilson Elementary School in 2016.

“I am so honored! To serve as principal in this district is such a blessing,” Felder said. “It is with great admiration and a humble heart that I have the privilege to represent the finest elementary principals as Principal of the Year in CFISD. I am so very grateful for this opportunity.”

Carew is currently in her 26th year in education and was named principal of Rowe Middle School in 2019 before opening the new school in August 2020. She began her career in Aldine ISD as a sixth grade language arts teacher, coming to CFISD in 2007 as an assistant principal at Aragon Middle School. Her first principal job came at Bleyl Middle School in 2009.

“Fifteen years ago when I was hired as principal I was told, ‘This will be the hardest job you ever loved!’ That statement is the absolute truth,” Carew said. “I truly love serving alongside my staff each and every day to make great things happen for kids.”

Felder and Carew will be recognized by the Region 4 Service Center at an April 10 luncheon at the Hotel Derek.
