The district was announced Feb. 1 for football and basketball programs, with the remaining alignments to follow.

Feb. 5, 2024—Six years after Cypress-Fairbanks ISD high school athletic teams were split into separate districts for the first time in history, CFISD’s two leagues saw slight changes as a result of the University Interscholastic League’s biennial Reclassification and Realignment on Feb. 1.

The UIL announced the 2024-2026 realignment at 9 a.m. for football and basketball programs.

Cypress Falls High School moves over from Region II and joins Cy-Fair, Cypress Creek, Cypress Ridge and Jersey Village high schools, along with three Spring Branch ISD schools (Memorial, Northbrook, and Stratford) to form District 17-6A.

The remaining seven CFISD schools, Bridgeland, Cypress Lakes, Cypress Park, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Springs, Cypress Woods and Langham Creek high schools, stay in Region II and join Waller High School to form District 16-6A.

Cypress Falls High School joins Region III after being moved to District 17-6A during the UIL biennial Reclassification and Realignment on Feb. 1. Cypress Falls now joins Cy-Fair, Cypress Creek, Cypress Ridge, Jersey Village, Memorial, Northbrook and Stratford high schools to form District 17-6A.

The opening of Cypress Park (2016) and Bridgeland (2017) gave CFISD 12 high schools, with the result of the school district splitting into separate leagues for the first time during the 2018 reclassification and realignment.

Before the split, CFISD was its own self-contained league for a decade to coincide with Cypress Woods beginning varsity play in 2008. Before the campus opened, CFISD schools spent time aligned with Bryan and A&M Consolidated (2002-2004), Tomball and Magnolia (2004-2006) and Houston Strake Jesuit (2006-2008).

District 17-6A remains in the Houston-centric Region III and will again have its bi-district playoff opponents coming from Houston ISD schools Bellaire, Chavez, Heights, Lamar, Math and Science Technical, Westside and Wisdom in District 18-6A.

With District 16-6A, postseason qualifiers will also see Houston-area schools in the bi-district round as District 15-6A includes Klein, Klein Cain, Klein Collins, Klein Forest, Klein Oak, Magnolia, Magnolia West, Tomball and Tomball Memorial.
