GUIDELINES FOR RETURNING TO SCHOOL FROM ILLNESS

  • A child who is sick and unable to participate in school in a meaningful way should remain home to rest and recover until symptoms resolve.  Keeping a sick child home also protects other students, school staff, and visiting community members from contracting an illness that can spread from person to person.  Please be aware of the following guidelines for school attendance:

    • Fever:  A student should remain home with fever great than 100° F and should only return after he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin.
    • Diarrhea/Vomiting:  A child with diarrhea and/or vomiting should stay at home and return to school only after being symptom free for 24 hours.
    • Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye):  Following a diagnosis of pink eye, a child may return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescribed medication has been administered.
    • Rashes:  Common infectious diseases with rashes are most contagious in the early stages.  A child with a suspicious rash should return to school only after a health care provider has made a diagnosis and authorizes the child’s return.

For more information, see www.cfisd.net, Parent and Students/Health/Communicable Disease Control.

CFISD MEDICATION POLICY

  • All medication, including prescription, non-prescription, cough drops, ibuprofen, etc. must be brought to the clinic by a parent/guardian. Medication will be secured in the clinic at all times. See www.cfisd.net, Parents and Students/Health/Medications.

CFISD IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Texas law requires that students are up-to-date on immunizations in order to attend class. See www.cfisd.net, Parents and Students/Health/Immunizations.  Please note that there are specifically two (2) shot requirements for students before beginning 7th grade when reading this information.

CFISD HEALTH SCREENING SCHEDULE

  • Seventh grade boys will be screened for hearing, vision, and Acanthosis Nigricans (a skin marker for insulin resistance).

Seventh grade girls will be screened for hearing, vision, scoliosis, and Acanthosis Nigricans (a skin marker for insulin resistance).

Eighth grade boys will be screened for scoliosis.

STUDENT PASSES

  • Students require a pass from their teacher to come to the clinic. Exemptions would include emergencies such as bleeding, vomiting, or breathing issues.

SPILLANE GUIDELINES REGARDING NO PE/ATHLETICS

  • If a student is ill and should not participate in PE/Athletics, parents may write a note and have their child bring it to the school nurse.  The nurse will fill out a pass for the student to show teachers.  Parent notes may remove a child for up to three days.  If an extension is needed, a doctor’s note should be sent stating how long the student should be removed from PE/Athletics.  Students may be given alternative assignments to complete during this time.
