April 11, 2024—Cypress Woods High School Audio Video Production (AVP) students received a Gold Distinction in Broadcast Excellence at the National Student Television Network (STN) Conference, held March 14-17 in Long Beach, Calif. This is the first time the Cypress Woods AVP program has earned this specific accolade.

Cypress Woods earned the distinction for its monthly show, CDub Today. Each submission was judged and scored by professionals who have multiple years of experience in the TV and film industry. Judges evaluated entries using a rubric with a potential maximum score of 100. To receive the gold distinction, submissions had to score between 90 and 100.

“After years of dedication and hard work, our group is thrilled to have achieved the Gold Distinction for Broadcast Excellence from STN,” said Lori Andrade, Cypress Woods audio video production teacher. “This prestigious award not only validates our efforts, but also highlights the exceptional quality of our productions within the highly competitive STN arena. It’s a testament to the talent and dedication of our students, and I feel truly blessed to work with such an incredibly talented group. This recognition serves as motivation to continue pushing boundaries and striving for excellence in our school’s broadcast journalism program.”

Per STN rules, all entries must be entirely student-produced. STN is a national organization that supports, promotes and recognizes excellence in scholastic broadcast journalism, creative video, filmmaking and media convergence.
