April 17, 2024—The Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) was honored with the 2023 Toshiba ASHITA Award for its ongoing Adopt-a-School partnership with Horne Elementary School.

The ASHITA Award, which means “tomorrow,” is a global award and is given to Toshiba companies that strengthen and promote good corporate citizenship, encourage social awareness, earn the trust of society and promote sustained development.

TIC officially entered an Adopt-a-School partnership with Horne in 2018 that still continues today. TIC is approximately two miles from the campus.

“Horne Elementary School is so very blessed to have the Toshiba International Corporation as a business partner,” said Dr. Tracey Bennett, Horne principal. “Since 2018, the volunteers at Toshiba have been dedicated to ensuring that our students know the community cares about them and their success. Our staff feels appreciated when Toshiba employees volunteer either in our library or at our various events. Throughout the year, Toshiba volunteers serve as bus buddies and ride the bus with our pre-K and kindergarten students during the first days of school. They volunteer to sort and stack books. They have helped us organize our science lab and literacy libraries. Most importantly, they assist with kindergarten graduation. We are honored to know that Toshiba recently won the company’s prestigious ASHITA Award because of their volunteer efforts at Horne. We are truly fortunate to have such a meaningful partnership with Toshiba.”

TIC hosted a luncheon to celebrate the award where TIC volunteers were recognized, and TIC presented a $2,000 check to Horne for the 2024-2025 school year.
