Fireworks prohibited on CFISD property

June 27, 2022—Cypress-Fairbanks ISD reminds those celebrating the upcoming Independence Day holiday that Texas Law prohibits the discharge of fireworks on school district property.

The Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 2154, Subchapter F, Section 2154.251 (a) (1), states that a person may not “explode or ignite fireworks within 600 feet of any church, a hospital other than a veterinary hospital, an asylum, a licensed child care center, or a public or private primary or secondary school or institution of higher education unless the person receives authorization in writing from that organization.” According to Subchapter G, Section 2154.303 (c), the violation of this law “that results in property damage in an amount of less than $200 and does not result in bodily injury or death is a Class C misdemeanor.”

If the use of fireworks on school property results in damage of an amount of more than $200, the violation can be a Class B misdemeanor.

The CFISD police department will patrol the district's premises during this holiday season. Citizens who observe such violations are requested to contact the CFISD police department dispatcher at 832-237-2373. Persons found violating these laws may be issued a citation or arrested.
